Robert & Ulrika
Every month we will introduce one of Harvest cafe’s amazing team members. We are a total of 12 and could not do any of this without any of them. We do realize that we have never introduced ourselves so lets start with that! Ulrika & Robert Glover are the founders of Harvest Cafe. Robert Glover is also the founder of Harvest cafe micro farm. A little about us: Robert is an entrepreneur with a business degree, self trained chef and has a background in farming and permaculture projects. He is a dedicated surfer, lives for the ocean and has a passion for the environment. Ulrika moved here from Sweden seven years ago. She is a health educator and a yoga teacher with a degree in health promotion and nutrition. She is a self trained chef with her specialty in raw/vegan baked goods. Her passion is truly to help people find their journey to a happy and healthy life.
Seven years ago we began our mission together of creating sustainable food for the earth and the body. Our food creation started from backyard to kitchen with hopes of a future farm to table restaurant and farm. Now they feel honored to have the amazing opportunity to share this with the community of Ventura County through Harvest cafe and harvest micro farm.
Food Themes
We love to be active, see the world and experience new cultures. Feeding the body with healthy and sustainable food gives us the energy to be active, explore and live an adventurist lifestyle. Our long term goal is to bring fun, inspiration and new cuisines from different countries to Harvest Cafe. Our first adventure and a frequent adventure for us is Sweden! Sweden is Ulrika’s home country. Last summer she spent 2 months teaching yoga and digging deeper into the Swedish food culture. This summer another 10 days. Sweden is known for their “cafe culture”. In Sweden we even have a word that means “grabbing a coffee and a snack” or a “fika”. Lets all grab a “fika” at Harvest cafe. (soon to be a special on the menu)
Last summer when we went back we noticed the superfood Licorice being in a lots of foods, especially in sweets. Licorice is a root that tastes salty and delicious, it is related to anise, star anise and fennel. It is grown in the south of Europe. The Licorice root (small amounts) is known for its anti-inflammatory effect on the human body. You will see the licorice root in some of our treats coming soon. It goes really well with chocolate. It brings the salty and sweet flavors to the pallet.
Every time we go back to Sweden, we get reminded that food is simple. In Sweden they use minimal spices and allow the food to speak for itself. Swedish food is clean and simple; so good for the palate and for the body. There are also a lot of fish and snaps (strong alcohol infused herbs and natural flavors) But what we are bringing back with us to Harvest is the simplicity of food and clean eating. We intend to allow the amazing produce that we can source at our farm and from other farms here in Ventura to shine. We will use 100% organic ingredients, fewer ingredients and serve the cleanest most nourishing foods possible.
