Matcha

 In Our Ingredients

Matcha – We are stepping up our matcha game!

There are many different grades of matcha, depending on where and how it is grown and how it is picked. There are two well known categories called ceremonial and culinary matcha. Culinary is not bad for you, in fact it has many good benefits.  Culinary is the first and most standard matcha and ceremonial is the highest grade of matcha which is even better for you. We are now serving 100% organic ceremonial matcha from a local family company called “got matcha”. They themselves have formed a relationship with a family in Japan who grows this awesome stuff.  Read more about it http://gotmatcha.com. My personal opinion, best matcha in town!  Come and try our ceremonial matcha latte with your choice on milk for $5.50!

So what can a $5.50 cup of matcha  possibly do?

Matcha contains high amounts of L-Theanines—a unique set of natural amino acids found almost exclusively in Matcha, known to reduce stress and anxiety, heighten concentration and help provide increased mental clarity and focus. Matcha will also fuel your body with high amounts of antioxidants, amino acids, chlorophyll, vitamins such as A, B, C and E, minerals such as magnesium and calcium. It will support longevity, prevent heart disease, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, improve memory, help to minimize neurological conditions, lower blood pressure and hypertension, prevent tooth decay… well the list goes on. Magic drink!

Lets dig deeper into the antioxidants Why? Because the matcha green tea does not contain small amounts of antioxidants. It blew my mind to find out that one cup of matcha contains more than 100 times the antioxidants than a serving of blueberries. Matcha green tea has higher levels of antioxidants than goji berries, acai berries, spinach and dark chocolate.

Antioxidants are known for protecting your cells from free radicals, free radicals such as radiation, sun, tobacco smoke, viruses: things that we don’t need in the body! Antioxidants help maintain a great immune system.

More about matcha….

The best ceremonial Matcha is grown in Japan. It is harvested early to mid may,  for the last 20 days before harvesting they cover the trees so the matcha leaves get minimal light. Why? Because the matcha leaves react by producing very high amounts of chlorophyl. After those 20 days it is time to harvest the rich beautiful chlorophyl filled matcha.
